We read a book about rewena bread. After that we made it. But it was only the rewena starter. First Mrs M mashed some potatoes without draining it. Mrs M poured it into a bowl. Next we added 2 cups of flour. Then we put some sugar in. We stirred it up. After that we sliced a raw potato up. We mixed it up and left it in a warm place overnight. Today we are going to have to stir in a cup of warm water. Then cover it and put it back in its warm place. The next day we will stir in a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of flour. Then we will put it in the warm place and cover it up again.

Bread Making
The Yeast Beast had water and yeast and sugar.The blue balloon filled up of carbon dioxide.
The yeast is frothy. We made bread. For the bread we put yeast and flour and salt and sugar and oil and water in a bowl and Mrs M put the bowl in Mrs M's car. The bread rose. The we cooked the bread and the bread was hot. We took the bread out of the oven. Then we ate the bread.

Potato Report
Stacy's potato is growing very big and well but it is growing on one side.The leaves are very green and big.Tiny little leaves are growing.The new potatoes in our school garden are growing very well too.

Yeast Beast
Yesterday we made an experiment. We put yeast, sugar and water in it.
It had a blue balloon on the top of the bottle. Carbon dioxide filled it up with air. Then we made bread with yeast, flour ,salt, sugar, oil and water. The yeast made the bread bubbly. I had two pieces of bread with butter on it. It tasted very, very, very good.

Group Day

Room 3s potatoes are growing very fast. We can see the shoots in the potatoes.

Planting Potatoes Again
We planted potatoes. Mrs M changed the worm farmers from the girls to the boys.The girls are now the gardeners.The girls dug and weeded in the garden.Mrs Wood helped the girls. Mrs M dug some holes in the garden. We put the potatoes in the holes. Jessica and Islay put tags in the places the potatoes were after they had covered them up.Then the girls watered the potatoes.I love planting potatoes.

Our Roots are in the Andes
We are learning about potatoes. We made potato people from the Andes. Some people brought potatoes. We drew a pattern on some material and cut a hole in the middle for the poncho.We put the potatoes through the poncho.Mrs M stuck ice-cream sticks into the potato for the legs. Mrs M made little hats for them. We made the Andes in the sandpit. The whole class played with their potato people in the sandpit.

PLANTING POTATOES
- We drilled five drainage holes in our buckets and put a name tag on them.
- We filled the bucket half full of compost.

The Rainbow Castle
We are learning about Fantasy. Mrs.M saved a box for us.We made a castle out of it.It is called Rainbow Castle. We painted it all sorts of colours. We all made a princess.Jessica made one
dolphin.Islay made 3 dolphins.We made a boat with a hook to hook up to the castle and the
boat was coverered in shells.Jelena's princess is called Saphire. There are pretty decorations on the castle.Stacy's princess is called Anabelle.Casey's princess is called Melody.Islay's princess is
called India. Jessica's princess is called Amber. Lucy's orincess is called Ella and Meryl's is Princess Penelope.
The Knights Castle
Dylan and Jhaelen made the bridge. Dylan made the drill to pull up the bridge.Ethan made the turrets to go on top of the castle. Callum and Connie painted the mote and windows. Charlie and Jared made the flags with sticks to put in the turrets. All the boys made the knights. Connie made the alligators for the mote.
We were learning to co-operate.
After that we wrote narratives about the characters in the castle.

TREE PEOPLE
After talking at home about changes that could be made to reduce our carbon footprint children made a pledge "I am going to ..........."
Korina has very kindly spent time helping all the children to join the Treepeople site,choose a tree, and make a pledge.
Unfortunately some of the pledges children had made at home were not available on the site so some children have changed theirs.

What is a carbon Footprint?
Today we unjumbled another sentence.

Cows and Methane Gas
When Connie told us that the cows "windies" were helping to make a hole in the ozone layer we asked Korina to tell us all about how this could be. Islay told us that the ozone layer was like a blanket over the world. The next day Gavin brought some cows to graze right outside our school. We went to check them out.
Callum took a photo of one of the cows, and wrote this explanation.......
COWS
Cows have four stomachs.
It looks like they only have one or two.
Their four stomachs have to work hard to digest their food.
Cows make a special gas called methane gas.
It comes out the rear end and the front end.

CARBON FOOTPRINT
Yesterday Mrs M asked us,
"What is a footprint?"
We talked with a buddy about all the things we had done
and learnt about footprints.
Then Mrs M gave us an envelope with words in it.
We had to make a sentence with the words.
The sentence was :
Our footprint is the mark that we leave behind.
Then Mrs M asked us a REALLY BIG QUESTION.

MUSEUM VISIT
We went to the museum . We met a guy called Andrew. He took us to the dinosaur room to learn about dinosaurs. We sat on some seats. We had to think of what a dinosaur was. Then we had point to the things that were dinosaurs. Out of 19 things that could happen to dinosaurs, there would only be 2 fossils made. We learnt that flying dinosaurs were not dinosaurs neither were sea ones.Then we had to find 2 fossil footprints. The first one was the big one. It could fit 7 people in it. The other one was small and it was harder to find. We learnt where to find a fossil in the North Island in rocks.
