The Water Cycle

Today we learnt about the water cycle.
We watched two videos on Youtube.
The first can be accessed by going into Youtube, click videos and write "World Ahoy-the Water Cycle" in the search bar. The second can be accessed by the same procedure, with "The Water Cycle David Bydlowski and Science Explosion" in the search bar.
Some of the material on Youtube is not appropriate for children so Mums and Dads, please monitor this.

Some of the students are learning about writing explanations.
Here are two explanations about the water cycle.

How the Water Cycle works

The water cycle goes around.

When the sun shines on the water, the water evaporates.

It goes up into the sky and into the clouds.

When the rain falls it goes into the river and back into the sea.

And it starts again.

How the Water Cycle works

The water cycle is about water.

The sun shone at the ocean and the water evaporated to the clouds.

Then it rained into the ocean.

The water cycle goes again and again.

"WRITING" ABOUT OUR EXPERIMENT

We had to cups of water.
Then we put some salt in the cup of water.
Then we mixed the salt water.
Then we put straws with playdough on the end of the straw.
Then we put them in the cups.
The straws floated in the cups.
The one in the salt water floated higher than the other.

Today we did an experiment on water.
We are learning about fresh water and salt water.
Mrs M got some hot water, and salt and a spoon.
Mrs M put hot water in the cups, and we put salt water in one of the cups.
Mrs M put seven spoons full of salt.
The cup with salt water in it was cloudy.
Mrs M had two straws and two pieces of play dough.
She put them in the salt water and fresh water.
The one in the salt water floated higher than the one in the fresh water.

Today we did an experiment.
We got two straws with playdough on the ends of them.
Before we did that we had some fresh water and salt water.
Then we put the straws in it.
The salt water is stronger than the fresh water because Mrs M put 7 spoons of salt in it.
The straw floated higher in the salt water than the fresh water.

Mrs M got two cups.
Then Mrs M put hot water and fresh water in the cups.
We made salt water and we mixed them together.
The salt water dissolved.
Then it was dense and the salt water went cloudy.
The salt water was strong and it got stronger.
Mrs M had two straws and we put playdough on the straws.
We discovered if we put salt it made stuff float higher.

Sustainability

This term we are learning about water.
At the moment we are finding out about water.
We are starting to wonder and ask questions.
So far we have learnt that the world has more water
than land and that the oceans are salt water.
We made globes in our literacy groups.
